And he scores!!

Vann had his second soccer game today.  Chris and I gave him little pep talk on the way to the game.  See he's a really great dribbler.  And once he gets the ball, he's great at taking it down the field, but then he stops.  Even at practice on Thursday, he dribbled it all the way down the field, then he stopped when he reached the defense just before the goal.  I'm not sure if he gets nervous because of the other players or if he hesitates to look for a clear opening or what.  But he does it every time.  So, on the way to the game we told him once he got the ball to take it to the goal...all the way to the goal.  Just like in the one drill they do during practice...pretend like no one else is there and just shoot it in.

Guess what?!?!  He listened!  And he scored 4 goals!!!  He was awesome!  It was so much fun to watch him play like we knew he could.  And he was so proud of himself...his smile was priceless!

Of course I didn't get any pictures of his goals...I was too busy cheering him on.  But here are a couple of pics I did take...

He's #7...right in the middle of the players.
He's trying to steal it from the other team.
He's taking it down the field.
And this is what Chayce did while his brother was busy scoring goals.

What a fun way to start our morning!  We've spent the rest of the day playing, relaxing, watching football, cooking, etc.  I made this yummy fruit salsa with our dinner tonight.  It was so light and refreshing.  Even the boys loved it!  I got the recipe from my blog friend, Jen @ Family, Food, Fitness, and Fun.  I did change one thing though.  I used fresh basil instead of mint because that's what I had.  It was great!  Here's the recipe...

Yummy Fruit Salsa

Fruit Salsa
  • 1 cup diced fresh pineapple
  • 1 cup diced watermelon
  • 1/8 cup finely diced onion
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeds and ribs removed, finely diced
  • 1 heaping Tbsp finely chopped cilantro
  • 1 heaping Tbsp finely chopped fresh basil
  • Juice of 1/2 a lime
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Mix all ingredients in a bowl.  I served the jalapenos in separate bowl because I didn't think the boys would like it spicy.  I liked it both with and without the jalapenos.  I will definitely be making this again!
