Ice Cream Social

We spent our entire weekend eating ice cream!  Okay not really, but we did have ice cream three days in a row...yes!!

Friday after work (which was really not so much work as we spent the day at Cantigny Park), Chris wanted to go out for dinner so, we all headed up to a little pizza place in town and enjoyed some pizza and a salad.

Then we walked to the ice cream shop and the boys gobbled up a yummy cone!

This is sooo much better than the ice cream in our freezer Mom!  After ice cream we sat outside in the back of the shop until 9:30pm chit-chatting and watching the fireflies.  The boys played with Kenny and Kayla while Chris and I chilled with Nicole.  It was just like old times when they lived next door...we miss having them as neighbors!

The next day I worked out with my trainer friend, Lindsey.  It was an outdoor group training and she kicked my booty!  I was so sore for like three days...love when that happens!  Then the boys and I headed back up to the ice cream shop for another yummy cone.  Hey it was toasty out and I was avoiding my chores lol.  A few blocks away there was an Arts in the Park event so we decided to check that out a bit.  Lots of local artists...we saw some cool stuff!

In the gazebo (where Chris and I got married!), the art studio had a bunch of tables set up for the kids.  The boys picked the drawing table and got right to work.

Vann drew a robot.

I like him!

And Chaycers drew a horse...turned out great!  Little Ash was being shy so he just watched.

On Sunday I went to yoga at Bloom and then we hit the ice cream shop again!  Three days in a row...I think that's a record for us!  They were having an Ice Cream Social with lots of fun games and things set up.  The kids had fun hanging with Kenny and eating root beer floats...yum!  They were on special so we had to have one.  It's been a few years and they're still as yummy as I remember :)

The boys :)

Super sized bowling!

Tackling them works too lol.

Pokemon is serious business.

Two of my loves :)

Cardinal Artwork

When I saw this art project on Facebook last week I knew we had to do it!  I love cardinals and think they are so beautiful.  We have a cardinal that comes to visit us often during the winter.  We love when he lands on our snow covered bushes in the backyard.  His bright red color really pops on the white snow.  This project reminded me of that except instead of him sitting on snowy trees, he's in a dark winter forest.  Which I think is so very cool.

Adding the tape for
their black trees.
Drawing their brown trees.

Using the long side of white chalk to
create a snowy background.

Then they used a Kleenex to
lightly wipe the chalk off.

Pulling the tape off.

Lightly wiping with a Kleenex again.

Drawing his bare bush on the bottom of the paper.

Drawing his cardinal.  I heart his
plump lil cardinal oh so much!

Their cardinals turned
out so great!
Coloring the cardinal.

Cutting his cardinal out.
Then they glued them on their branches.

So cool right?!
Top left is Chayce, top right is Harley, bottom is Vann.

And I just realized we missed a step!  I think we'll go back and do it today as it will really make the black trees stand out a little more.  We were supposed to outline the black trees with a black marker.  Either way I think they turned out fabulous!  I love each of their cardinals.

Okay here ya go...our for real finished art projects!

Tracing his trees in black.

I like how the black makes the trees pop.  It doesn't look like Chaycers traced his, but he did.  He just didn't press super hard.  And Harley took hers home already so, she'll just have to trace her trees a lil later.  Great job guys!!

One-point Perspective Paintings

We did a one-point perspective Halloween project and I loved it so, when I saw this one I knew we had to do it!  This one was a bit more involved and took a few sessions to complete, but it was so worth it.  First, they drew their picture.  This took a good hour or so.  One thing I love about art is how lost they get in it.  It's so fun to watch them create :)

Chaycers is using a ruler to draw his buildings.

The next week, they traced over their pencil in black marker.

Vann's drawing...so cool huh?!

Chayce's drawing...love it!

The next session we brought out the paint!

Working on his trees.
He alternated shades of green.

Painting his road.

Time for some buildings.

Vann did a rainbow of buildings.

Lookin' good!

Sky time...

He did a pretty sunset :)

Harley's painting her trees.
And now her buildings.

Almost done!

Vann's masterpiece!  So colorful, I love it!

Chayce's masterpiece, I love it!  I heart his orange door!

Harley Jo's masterpiece!  I mean for reals, can you believe she's only 4?  Wonderful!

My little Ash had his 3 year check up last night.  Yes I realize I'm a few months late.  Better late than never right?!  He does not love the doctor.  Like at all.  Ever since he was 2 months old he cries the second we walk in there...I'm serious.  He knows every time he goes (which is really only for his yearly well visits), he's going to get shots.  No fun.  So as we're getting ready to leave he kept saying, 'Mom I want to go to my doctor appointment later ok?'  Oh you sweet thing!  He did not want to go at all and was trying to get me to postpone it.

As we pull into the parking lot he's like, 'I thought I said I want to go to my doctor appointment later?'  Yes he really said all that!  Everything went exactly as I anticipated...tears and more tears and lots of screaming...it was lovely.  And he didn't even get any shots!  Little stinker cried and cried just because we were there...at his doctor appointment that he wanted to go to later.  Thank goodness he doesn't ever get sick and these visits aren't more frequent!  I held him the entire visit while she looked in his ears and listened to his heart and lungs and all of that.  She said he's growing perfectly and is tall for his age.  People ask me that all the time!  Well now I know it's true :)

I just love his wispy lil' curls.  And those cheeks...can't get enough of them!

He put a slap bracelet on his leg and said, 'Take my picture Mom!'  Okay you little cutie, whatever you say :)
