Stamping with Squares

Our shape of the month is a square so, today we did some stamping with square blocks.  After gathering all the square blocks, the kiddos headed to the table and got busy.  They used primary colors and we chatted about what new colors are made when you mix the paints up.  Time to stamp!

I encouraged them to lift
straight up after stamping
it down.
That lil' tip worked well!

Harley and Ash stamping away.

He likes it!

Time to mix the paints up
a bit!
We began to see purple, green
and orange in his squares.

Their stamped squares!
Ash's is on top, Harley's is on bottom.

Marshmallow Triangles

Marshmallows + toothpicks = a fun way to explore triangles!  And the kiddos loved having a yummy treat!  I'm sure they'd love to do this for every shape we learn about just so they can eat some marshmallows haha.

Love this little dude!

Almost got one...
Ta da!!

He wanted to keep building and building...

And another triangle!

I let him make as many as his little heart desired...which
was about 10 :)

He worked hard to get them
correct.
Push it in here...yes!

Snapped a pic of one of Harley's triangles too!

I bought the fruity marshmallows because I loved the idea of chatting about colors as well as triangles, but man they were super duper sticky!  I don't buy marshmallows often, like twice a year, and I've never bought the colored ones before so, I'm not sure if it was my bag or the fact that I got the fruity ones.  Anyhow, we had some sticky hands during this project!  I did try to separate all the marshmallows and let them sit out for a bit prior to our building triangles, but it didn't help much in the stickiness department.  Ah well, we made it work and it was a lot of fun!!

Triangle Painting

I ordered some foam shapes the other day so, I thought hey let's do a project with them!  It was very simple, but provided with many opportunities to chat about triangles, how many sides they have, what shapes they make when you put them together...that kind of stuff.  He had a huge pile of triangles to choose from and at the end I brought out the paint and let him get his creativity on!

I love how focused he gets when he glues...

He did such a great job staying near the edges.  Even when I encouraged him to put a little in the middle...he didn't want to.

Sticking it down.

He chose to stand up :)
Painting his triangles first.

And then he let his creativity flow!

He was so into it...
A little white right here...yes!

Smile Ash!!

And of course a silly face :)

It was fun to watch him paint whatever his little heart desired.  I wish I could've heard all the thoughts that were going on in his head as he was painting.  He was so into it!  A simple, yet fun art project :)
